Happy New Year!
We’re energized by the support and generosity that you – our members, donors and volunteers – have shown us throughout the past year. You’ve helped us meet unexpected challenges with creativity, flexibility and productivity.
Because of your support, we’re able to engage people through free webinars that examine topics such as our community forestry work and how our scientists are supporting the region’s vulnerable species affected by climate change. Our staff has been able to continue planting trees and gardens, conserving land and maintaining trails, and protecting and studying wildlife, plants and streams.
At Fallingwater, you’ve responded with great interest to our new free webinars, virtual experiences, online classes and summer camps and special exterior tours. We’ve expanded our community outreach by partnering with 412 Rescue to provide food distributions for local families.
From all of us at the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and Fallingwater, thank you. We look forward to your continued partnership in the new year, and wish you a wonderful, safe and happy 2021!

Students, Enroll in Fallingwater Virtual Drawing Classes or Summer Camps
High school students of all skill levels who are interested in design, architecture or fine art can improve technical drawing skills while learning about Wright’s organic design philosophy. Our Fallingwater Institute online classes and virtual summer camps are led by expert instructors and will help prepare your student for the college application process. In partnership with Miami University of Ohio, Fallingwater will host a free 90-minute virtual mini-symposium to explore sustainability through the lens of Wright’s organic architecture philosophy. Practitioners, educators, scholars and students will discuss theories and practices about the built environment that nurture and ennoble the human condition. Steward a Community Garden

We are seeking volunteer garden stewards at several gardens to remove debris and prune in winter, and plant, water and weed in the spring.

January Desktop Background
Hikers at the 369-acre Toms Run Nature Reserve can view wildlife from a three-mile loop trail that includes an ADA-accessible path. Birders can observe migrant songbirds, including vireos, warblers, thrushes and sparrows, during spring and fall migration. Visitors can even see large, above-ground nests built by a native ant called Allegheny mound builders.
The Conservancy began protecting this urban forest from development in 1977 and has been working to restore it from years of gas and residential development since the mid-2000s. It is one of the largest areas of undeveloped forested land in Allegheny County and hosts important plant and animal habitats. Several small streams run through the property; the largest, Toms Run, is a tributary of the Ohio River.
